Job Overview

Light for the World (LFTW – Kenya) is hiring experienced Business Development Service (BDS) Providers to support the PowerUp Program, an inclusive entrepreneurship initiative focused on the e-waste value chain.

The role involves training, coaching, and mentoring 1000+ microentrepreneurs (MEs) working in repair, collection, and aggregation of e-waste, while promoting inclusive participation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities.


About the PowerUp Program

The PowerUp Program is designed to strengthen microenterprise development within the circular economy, especially in the e-waste sector. The program provides:

  • Technical skills training
  • Business development support
  • Mentorship and coaching
  • Market and financial linkages

The 2026–2027 phase focuses on scaling support and building inclusive local ecosystems.


Key Responsibilities

Training & Mentorship

  • Mobilize, verify, and onboard microentrepreneurs
  • Deliver group training sessions and 1:1 coaching
  • Provide ongoing mentorship throughout the program

Business Development Support

  • Strengthen recordkeeping and business management skills
  • Use structured tools and templates for enterprise growth
  • Support milestone-based business improvements

Field Engagement

  • Conduct field visits and in-person coaching sessions
  • Facilitate practical, hands-on learning experiences

Inclusive Program Delivery

  • Promote disability inclusion and gender equality
  • Apply adaptive training methods and reasonable accommodation (RA)
  • Ensure participation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities

Market Linkages

  • Connect MEs to repair hubs, suppliers, and buyers
  • Facilitate access to finance and business networks

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Submit weekly progress reports and coaching logs
  • Track performance using digital reporting systems
  • Collaborate with MERLA and Program teams

Eligibility & Qualifications

Required Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years in business coaching or mentorship
  • Experience in informal sector, repair businesses, electronics, or circular economy
  • Proven track record in supporting micro or small enterprises

Inclusion Expertise (Mandatory)

  • Strong experience in disability-inclusive facilitation
  • Ability to apply adaptive learning approaches
  • Experience working with women, youth, and persons with disabilities

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of market systems and inclusive finance
  • Experience in milestone tracking and performance documentation
  • Familiarity with digital reporting tools (preferred)

Other Requirements

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
  • Must be based in or actively working in one of the target counties
