Key Responsibilities

  • Lead complex geotechnical investigations, including borehole logging, in-situ testing, and laboratory testing coordination.
  • Perform advanced numerical modeling and analysis of soil-structure interaction for large-scale foundations.
  • Develop comprehensive geotechnical design reports and technical specifications for civil works.
  • Collaborate with structural engineers and project managers to integrate geotechnical findings into overall project designs.
  • Supervise site investigations and ensure compliance with international geotechnical standards and safety protocols.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and geotechnical technicians on-site.
  • Review and approve geotechnical design documents and construction methodologies.

Required Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in geotechnical modeling software such as Plaxis or GeoStudio.
  • Deep understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities regarding complex geological formations.
  • Excellent technical writing skills for producing detailed engineering reports.
  • Strong project management and multidisciplinary team coordination skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of Eurocode 7 and local Kenyan building standards.

Education

A Master of Science in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field is mandatory. A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required as a prerequisite. Professional registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) is highly preferred.

Experience

Candidates must possess a minimum of seven years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering, specifically within the heavy infrastructure or large-scale construction sector. Proven experience in managing complex subsurface investigations and designing foundations for bridges, dams, or high-rise structures is essential. Experience working in diverse geological terrains is a significant advantage.
