Job Overview

Microsoft Kenya is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Architect to join our dynamic team in Nairobi. This role is crucial for designing, implementing, and managing robust data architectures that support our business objectives and drive data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of data warehousing, big data technologies, cloud platforms (Azure), and data governance principles. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement enterprise-level data architectures, including data warehouses, data lakes, and data marts.
  • Develop and maintain data models, schemas, and metadata for various data solutions.
  • Define and enforce data governance policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and technical teams to gather requirements and translate them into effective data solutions.
  • Evaluate and recommend new data technologies and tools to enhance our data capabilities.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, security, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior data professionals.
  • Optimize data pipelines and database performance for efficiency and scalability.
  • Develop strategies for data integration, data migration, and data lifecycle management.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in data architecture and big data.

Required Skills

  • Expertise in data modeling techniques (e.g., Kimball, Inmon, Data Vault).
  • Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., Azure SQL Database, Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL).
  • Strong experience with cloud data platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks).
  • Knowledge of big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Understanding of data governance, data quality, and data security principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT processes and tools.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) is a plus.

Education

A Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a closely related field is required. A Bachelor’s degree with significant relevant experience may be considered.

Experience

A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in data architecture, data modeling, database design, and implementation of large-scale data solutions. Proven experience with cloud-based data platforms and big data technologies is essential. Experience in the technology sector is highly desirable.
