Job Overview
The Artificial Intelligence Ethics Officer will lead the development, implementation, and governance of ethical AI practices across Microsoft Kenya’s product portfolio. You will collaborate with engineers, product managers, legal counsel, and external stakeholders to ensure AI systems are transparent, fair, and accountable. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain an AI Ethics framework aligned with global standards and Kenyan regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments for AI models, identifying bias, privacy, and safety concerns.
- Collaborate with product teams to embed ethical guidelines throughout the AI development lifecycle.
- Provide training and guidance to engineers and data scientists on responsible AI practices.
- Engage with external partners, NGOs, and government bodies to stay abreast of emerging ethical considerations.
- Draft policy documents, whitepapers, and compliance reports for internal and external audiences.
- Monitor AI deployments for ongoing compliance and recommend corrective actions when needed.
- Lead incident response for ethical breaches related to AI systems.
Required Skills
- Deep understanding of AI/ML technologies and their societal implications.
- Strong knowledge of data privacy laws, including Kenya’s Data Protection Act.
- Excellent analytical and critical‑thinking abilities.
- Proven experience in policy development or ethical governance.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear ethical guidelines.

Education
A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Ethics, Law, Philosophy, or a related field is required. Relevant certifications in AI ethics, data privacy, or responsible AI are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of five years working in AI ethics, policy development, compliance, or a comparable role within the technology sector. Experience in a multinational environment and familiarity with Kenyan regulatory landscapes will be advantageous.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary ranging from SSP 2,000,000 to SSP 3,000,000 per month, reflecting the seniority and impact of the role. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided.
