Job Overview

The Water Treatment Plant Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the design, operation, and optimization of water treatment facilities within the Kisii region. This role involves ensuring compliance with national water quality standards, managing plant performance, and leading continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and control all treatment processes to meet Kenyan Standards for Drinking Water Quality.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for critical equipment such as filters, pumps, and chemical dosing systems.
• Conduct regular performance analyses, generate reports, and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce operational costs.
• Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, and corrective action plans for any deviations or equipment failures.
• Coordinate with the environmental compliance team to ensure all discharge permits and regulatory requirements are consistently met.
• Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous learning.
• Participate in capital project planning, feasibility studies, and budgeting for plant upgrades or expansions.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of water treatment technologies, including coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection.
• Proficiency in SCADA systems, PLC programming, and data analytics tools for process optimization.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a data‑driven approach to decision making.
• Effective communication skills for interfacing with stakeholders, regulators, and community representatives.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet strict deadlines.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Water Professional (CWP) or membership in the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) are advantageous.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience operating or engineering water treatment plants, preferably within the Kenyan or East African context. Experience with large‑scale municipal water systems and familiarity with the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) guidelines will be considered a strong asset.

Salary
