Job Overview

The Solar Project Engineer will lead the technical planning, design, and execution of solar energy projects in the Kisumu region and surrounding counties. This role involves close interaction with clients, local authorities, and cross‑functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The engineer will be responsible for site assessments, system sizing, procurement coordination, installation supervision, and performance testing. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive site surveys and feasibility studies for residential, commercial, and mini‑grid solar projects.
• Develop detailed electrical designs, single‑line diagrams, and bill‑of‑materials using industry‑standard software.
• Coordinate with procurement teams to source high‑efficiency PV modules, inverters, and balance‑of‑system components.
• Supervise installation crews, ensuring compliance with safety standards, local regulations, and company quality protocols.
• Perform system commissioning, performance verification, and post‑installation troubleshooting.
• Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and client handover documentation.
• Collaborate with the sales and finance departments to provide accurate cost estimates and project timelines.
• Stay updated on emerging solar technologies, policy changes, and market trends to recommend innovative solutions.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in solar design tools such as PV*SOL, PVSyst, or Helioscope.
• Strong understanding of electrical codes (Kenya Electricity Act, IEC standards) and grid interconnection requirements.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills for client interaction and multidisciplinary teamwork.
• Project management capabilities, including scheduling, budgeting, and risk mitigation.
• Ability to work in field conditions, including remote locations and varying weather.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field is required. Professional certifications such as NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) or equivalent are advantageous but not mandatory.

Experience

Applicants should have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience designing, installing, or managing solar PV projects ranging from 5 kW to 500 kW. Experience with mini‑grid solutions or off‑grid rural electrification projects will be considered a strong asset.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 150,000 to 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and incentives are also part of the remuneration package.
