Job Overview
The Renewable Energy Project Analyst will support KenGen’s Project Development department by conducting feasibility studies, financial modeling, and risk assessments for new renewable energy initiatives. This role involves close collaboration with engineering, finance, and regulatory teams to ensure projects meet technical, economic, and compliance standards. The analyst will also monitor market trends, policy changes, and technological advancements to provide strategic insights that shape KenGen’s project pipeline. By delivering accurate and actionable analyses, the analyst will help KenGen secure funding, optimize project design, and accelerate the deployment of clean energy solutions across Kenya.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed feasibility studies for solar, wind, and geothermal projects, including resource assessment and site selection.
- Develop and maintain financial models to evaluate project viability, cash flow, and return on investment.
- Conduct risk analysis, identifying technical, regulatory, and market risks, and propose mitigation strategies.
- Prepare comprehensive project reports and presentations for senior management and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to align technical specifications with financial assumptions.
- Monitor and interpret national energy policies, incentives, and regulatory frameworks affecting renewable projects.
- Support the preparation of grant applications, power purchase agreements, and financing proposals.
- Track project milestones, budgets, and performance metrics throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with proficiency in Excel, VBA, and financial modeling software.
- Knowledge of renewable energy technologies, especially solar, wind, and geothermal.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities for report writing and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to work cross‑functionally and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with Kenyan energy regulations, PPAs, and incentive schemes.
- Proficiency in GIS tools and data visualization is an advantage.
Education
The successful candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Renewable Energy, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Management, or a closely related field. Advanced certifications or a Master’s degree in Energy Economics or Project Management are considered a strong plus.
Experience
A minimum of three to five years of experience in renewable energy project analysis, financial modeling, or related consultancy work is required. Experience with international funding agencies, such as the World Bank or AfDB, and exposure to public‑private partnership structures will be highly valued.
Salary
KenGen offers a competitive salary range of SSP 150,000 to SSP 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The compensation package includes performance‑based bonuses and allowances aligned with Kenya Jobs market standards.
