Job Overview
The Telecom Network Planning Manager will lead the strategic design, optimization, and rollout of Safaricom’s next‑generation mobile and fixed‑line infrastructure. Reporting to the Head of Network Operations, the role involves coordinating cross‑functional teams, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. This position is pivotal for delivering reliable, high‑capacity services that meet the growing demand for data, voice, and emerging digital solutions across Kenya.
As part of the role, you will collaborate with engineering, procurement, and field deployment teams to translate business objectives into actionable network plans. You will also engage with external partners, vendors, and government agencies to secure spectrum, permits, and align on industry standards. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive network planning strategies for 4G, 5G, and fiber‑optic deployments across urban and rural areas.
- Lead feasibility studies, site acquisition, and radio frequency (RF) analysis to optimize coverage and capacity.
- Coordinate with the engineering and construction teams to ensure timely implementation of network projects within budget.
- Monitor network performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and propose enhancements to improve quality of service.
- Manage relationships with vendors, consultants, and regulatory bodies to secure necessary approvals and resources.
- Prepare detailed project reports, cost estimates, and risk assessments for senior management.
- Ensure compliance with Kenya Communications Authority (KCA) regulations and international standards.
- Mentor junior planners and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the department.
Required Skills
- Strong expertise in RF planning, propagation modeling, and network optimization tools (e.g., Atoll, Planet).
- Proficiency in GIS mapping, data analysis, and project management software.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex projects.
- Knowledge of Kenyan telecom regulations and spectrum allocation policies.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., PMP, ITU‑R) are advantageous.
Experience
Applicants must have 5‑7 years of progressive experience in telecom network planning, design, or optimization, preferably within a large mobile operator or infrastructure provider. Demonstrated experience managing large‑scale rollout projects is essential.
Salary
