Job Overview
The Credit Risk Assessment Specialist will play a pivotal role in evaluating credit applications, monitoring portfolio performance, and developing risk mitigation strategies. Reporting to the Head of Credit Risk, the specialist will collaborate with loan officers, product managers, and senior analysts to ensure that credit decisions align with the bank’s risk appetite and regulatory requirements. This position is essential for maintaining the integrity of the loan portfolio and supporting the bank’s growth objectives in the competitive Kenyan market.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze credit proposals and financial statements to assess borrower creditworthiness.
- Develop and maintain credit scoring models and risk rating systems.
- Monitor existing loan portfolios for early warning signs of delinquency.
- Prepare detailed risk assessment reports for senior management and regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate with product development teams to design risk‑adjusted loan products.
- Conduct periodic stress testing and scenario analysis to evaluate portfolio resilience.
- Provide training and guidance to loan officers on credit risk best practices.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and quantitative abilities with proficiency in Excel and statistical software.
- In‑depth knowledge of Kenyan banking regulations and Basel III standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report preparation and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross‑functional team.
- Attention to detail and strong problem‑solving mindset.
Education
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CFA, FRM, or equivalent are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Applicants should possess at least three to five years of hands‑on experience in credit risk analysis, preferably within a commercial banking environment. Experience with credit scoring models, portfolio monitoring tools, and regulatory reporting is essential.
Salary
The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary ranging from SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and other incentives are also part of the compensation package.
