Job Overview
This role supports Cargill’s mission to advance agricultural development in coastal Kenya by providing technical expertise and training to farmers. The position requires a proactive professional with strong field experience to bridge the gap between modern agronomic practices and local farming systems. Candidates will contribute to Cargill’s Kenya Jobs strategy while promoting rural economic empowerment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct on-farm training sessions on sustainable crop management techniques
- Develop and implement agricultural extension programs for smallholder farmers
- Monitor crop health and soil conditions to recommend improvements
- Collaborate with local cooperatives to establish market linkages
- Collect and analyze agricultural data to inform program adjustments
- Provide advisory services on climate-smart farming practices
Required Skills
- Proven experience in agricultural extension services
- Strong knowledge of coastal region farming challenges
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently in remote rural areas
- Proficiency in using mobile data collection tools
- Bilingual in Swahili and English
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy or Rural Development
- Postgraduate qualification in Agricultural Economics preferred
Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in agricultural advisory roles
- Experience working with smallholder farming communities
- Project management experience in rural development programs
Salary
220,000 – 300,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience
