Job Overview
The Marine Renewable Energy Project Engineer will lead the technical design, implementation, and commissioning of offshore renewable energy installations, focusing on wave and tidal technologies. Reporting to the Head of Project Development, the engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, local authorities, and international partners to deliver projects that meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities
- Lead feasibility studies and site assessments for marine renewable projects in Kenyan waters.
- Develop detailed engineering designs, including mechanical, electrical, and structural calculations.
- Coordinate procurement of specialized marine equipment and ensure compliance with international standards.
- Manage installation schedules, oversee offshore construction activities, and conduct performance testing.
- Collaborate with environmental specialists to secure permits and conduct impact assessments.
- Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and risk analyses for senior management.
- Provide technical support during operation and maintenance phases to optimize energy output.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of marine renewable technologies such as wave converters, tidal turbines, and floating platforms.
- Proficiency in CAD, CFD, and simulation software (e.g., ANSYS, SolidWorks).
- Understanding of offshore electrical systems, grid integration, and power electronics.
- Excellent project management abilities, including scheduling, budgeting, and stakeholder communication.
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and lead cross‑functional initiatives.
- Familiarity with Kenyan maritime regulations and international standards (IEC, DNV‑GL).
- Effective problem‑solving skills and a safety‑first mindset.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Marine, or Ocean Engineering is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications in renewable energy or project management (e.g., PMP) are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of five years’ experience in offshore or marine engineering projects, preferably within the renewable energy sector. Prior involvement in wave or tidal energy projects, offshore wind, or marine infrastructure will be considered a strong advantage.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 200,000 to SSP 350,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a pension scheme.
