Job Overview
This role involves designing, implementing, and optimizing marine-based renewable energy systems to support Kenya’s transition to clean energy. The position is based in Malindi, a strategic hub for oceanic research and coastal energy projects. Candidates will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop scalable solutions for marine energy generation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and oversee the installation of marine renewable energy systems (wave/tidal).
- Conduct feasibility studies for new energy projects in coastal regions.
- Collaborate with marine biologists and environmental scientists to ensure ecological sustainability.
- Monitor system performance and implement improvements for efficiency and reliability.
- Prepare technical reports and present findings to stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in marine engineering software (e.g., CAD, MATLAB/Simulink).
- Experience with renewable energy project lifecycle management.
- Strong analytical skills for data analysis and system optimization.
- Knowledge of Kenyan energy regulations and environmental compliance standards.
- Excellent communication skills for cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy Systems, or equivalent. Advanced degrees (Master’s/PhD) in relevant fields are a plus.
Experience
3-5 years of experience in marine energy systems, renewable energy project development, or coastal infrastructure engineering. Prior experience in East Africa or marine environments is preferred.
Salary
200,000 – 300,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience.
