Job Overview

The Renewable Energy Project Finance Analyst will play a pivotal role in structuring, evaluating, and managing the financial aspects of Shell’s renewable energy projects in Kenya and the broader East African market. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed financial models for solar, wind, and hybrid energy projects, incorporating capital expenditures, operating costs, revenue streams, and tax implications.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, sensitivity analyses, and risk assessments to support investment decisions.
  • Prepare comprehensive investment memoranda, presentations, and board packages for senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with lenders, equity partners, and government agencies to secure project financing and ensure compliance with local regulations.
  • Monitor project financial performance against budgets, forecasts, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Assist in negotiating financing terms, loan agreements, and power purchase agreements (PPAs).
  • Provide ongoing financial reporting, variance analysis, and cash flow management throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support the development of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting frameworks aligned with international standards.

Required Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in financial modeling using Excel, VBA, and financial software such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies, market dynamics, and regulatory environments in Kenya.
  • Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills for presenting complex financial concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Negotiation and stakeholder management experience.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree (MBA, MSc Finance, or Renewable Energy Management) is highly desirable. Professional certifications such as CFA, CPA, or PMP are advantageous.

Experience

Minimum of five years of experience in project finance, preferably within the renewable energy sector or large‑scale infrastructure projects. Prior exposure to power purchase agreements, project development, and financing structures in Kenya or East Africa is essential.
