Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join the diagnostic team at Mombasa County Referral Hospital. The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of experience in clinical or hospital laboratory environments and will possess strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, and quality control measures.
The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for preparing, analyzing, and interpreting specimens under supervision, ensuring accuracy, safety, and compliance with established laboratory protocols. This role is essential to support patient care through precise and timely laboratory diagnostics.
Key Responsibilities
Collect, label, and process biological specimens, including blood, urine, stool, and tissue samples.
Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests, including hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, and serology.
Prepare reagents, calibrate instruments, and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure proper functioning.
Maintain accurate laboratory records, logs, and reports for all tests performed.
Monitor inventory of laboratory reagents, consumables, and equipment, and request supplies as needed.
Follow laboratory safety standards, infection control protocols, and quality assurance procedures.
Assist in troubleshooting and resolving laboratory equipment or procedural issues.
Collaborate with laboratory scientists, clinicians, and hospital staff to ensure timely diagnostic results.
Participate in internal and external quality control programs and laboratory audits.
Support research or specialized diagnostic projects when required.
Required Qualifications
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field.
3–5 years of experience in hospital or clinical laboratory settings.
Knowledge of laboratory instruments, laboratory information systems (LIS), and diagnostic equipment.
Understanding of quality control, quality assurance, and laboratory safety procedures.
Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and ability to work under pressure.
