Job Overview

The Mine Safety Officer will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs at Anglo American’s Eldoret mining complex. Reporting to the Head of Safety, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with local regulations, international standards, and company policies. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and enforce comprehensive mine safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, hazard analyses, and safety audits across all operational areas.
  • Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide safety training and mentorship to all staff, including contractors and temporary workers.
  • Monitor compliance with Kenyan mining regulations, OSHA standards, and ISO 45001.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and environmental teams to integrate safety into project planning.
  • Prepare and present safety performance reports to senior management and external regulators.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, incident logs, and documentation for audit readiness.

Required Skills

  • In‑depth knowledge of mining safety regulations and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and training delivery skills.
  • Proficiency in safety management software and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and influence a safety‑first culture.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Swahili is an advantage.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or CSP are highly desirable and will be considered an asset during the selection process.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of progressive experience in mine safety or a comparable high‑hazard environment. Demonstrated experience in conducting safety audits, incident investigations, and leading training programs is essential.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 150,000 to SSP 250,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be offered.
