Job Overview

The Blockchain Compliance Analyst will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring compliance policies related to blockchain and distributed ledger technologies used by Absa Bank Kenya. The role involves close collaboration with legal, risk, technology, and business teams to ensure that all blockchain initiatives meet regulatory standards and internal risk appetites. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular risk assessments and gap analyses on blockchain initiatives, identifying potential compliance issues and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with the legal team to interpret new regulations, such as the Central Bank of Kenya’s guidelines on digital assets, and translate them into actionable compliance controls.
  • Monitor ongoing blockchain transactions and smart contract deployments for suspicious activity, applying AML/KYC standards where applicable.
  • Prepare and present compliance reports to senior management and regulators, highlighting key findings, remediation actions, and compliance metrics.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, evidence, and explanations of blockchain compliance controls.
  • Lead training sessions and workshops for business units on blockchain compliance requirements and ethical considerations.
  • Stay abreast of global regulatory developments in blockchain, cryptocurrency, and fintech, and advise the bank on strategic implications.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of blockchain technology, smart contracts, and decentralized finance (DeFi) concepts.
  • In‑depth understanding of Kenyan financial regulations, AML/CFT, and data privacy laws.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a keen eye for detail.
  • Effective communication skills to convey complex regulatory concepts to technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies and compliance monitoring tools.

Education

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Anti‑Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP), or blockchain‑specific credentials (e.g., Certified Blockchain Professional) are highly desirable.

Experience

Applicants should have 3‑5 years of experience in compliance, risk management, or regulatory affairs within the financial services sector. Direct experience with blockchain projects, digital assets, or fintech solutions will be considered a strong advantage.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 150,000 to SSP 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and other incentives are also part of the total compensation package.
