Job Overview
The Satellite Communications Engineer will design, implement, and maintain satellite link solutions that support Ericsson’s network portfolio in Kenya and the broader East African region. This role involves collaborating with cross‑functional teams to integrate satellite backhaul, optimize RF performance, and ensure seamless connectivity for mobile operators. The engineer will also contribute to project planning, technical documentation, and field deployments, playing a pivotal part in expanding network coverage to underserved areas. Key Responsibilities
- Design and engineer satellite communication links, including VSAT, Ka‑band, and GEO/MEO satellite systems.
- Conduct RF link budget analysis, interference studies, and performance optimization.
- Coordinate with vendors, satellite operators, and local authorities for spectrum licensing and site acquisition.
- Lead field installation, commissioning, and testing of satellite equipment at remote sites.
- Develop technical specifications, schematics, and documentation for network integration.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for live satellite networks.
- Collaborate with network planning and core engineering teams to ensure end‑to‑end solution compatibility.
- Monitor network performance metrics and implement corrective actions to meet SLA targets.
- Stay updated on emerging satellite technologies and industry standards.
- Participate in knowledge‑sharing sessions and mentor junior engineers.
Required Skills
- Strong expertise in satellite communications, RF engineering, and link budgeting.
- Proficiency with satellite equipment vendors such as Hughes, Viasat, and Inmarsat.
- Hands‑on experience with microwave antennas, RF amplifiers, and modulation schemes.
- Solid understanding of IP networking, MPLS, and QoS concepts.
- Ability to use simulation tools like STK, ATDI, or similar.
- Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Willingness to travel to remote sites across Kenya and occasionally the East African region.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in satellite communications (e.g., Certified Satellite Communications Professional) are advantageous.
Experience
Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience designing, deploying, and maintaining satellite communication systems for telecom operators or large‑scale enterprises. Experience with Ericsson’s network solutions is a plus.
Salary
