Job Overview

The Educational Infrastructure Development Specialist will lead the design and implementation of school infrastructure projects in Garissa, aligning with UNICEF’s mission to promote equitable access to quality education. Key Responsibilities

• Design and oversee the construction of climate-resilient school buildings, including classrooms, libraries, and sanitation facilities.
• Collaborate with local communities, governments, and NGOs to identify infrastructure priorities and co-create solutions.
• Integrate renewable energy systems (e.g., solar power) into school designs to reduce environmental impact.
• Develop project timelines, budgets, and risk assessments for infrastructure initiatives.
• Monitor construction quality and ensure compliance with safety and sustainability standards.
• Provide training to local stakeholders on maintaining and upgrading educational facilities.

Required Skills

• Proven experience in educational infrastructure planning or sustainable construction projects.
• Strong understanding of climate-resilient design principles and materials.
• Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, AutoCAD) and budgeting software.
• Excellent communication skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders, including community leaders and technical teams.
• Knowledge of Kenyan education policies and infrastructure regulations.
• Ability to adapt to remote fieldwork conditions in rural or underserved areas.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree in Sustainable Development or Public Administration is a plus.

Experience

3–5 years of experience in educational infrastructure, construction management, or community development projects. Prior work in Kenya or East Africa is preferred.

Salary

250,000 – 350,000 SSP annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
