Job Overview

The Telecom Network Optimization Engineer will lead advanced planning, performance analysis, and optimization of Safaricom’s radio access network (RAN) in the North Rift region. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive drive tests and KPI analysis to identify network bottlenecks and coverage gaps.
  • Develop and implement optimization strategies for LTE and 5G radio parameters, including antenna tilt, power settings, and handover thresholds.
  • Collaborate with RF planning, core network, and field engineering teams to execute network upgrades and expansions.
  • Utilize advanced analytics tools (e.g., Atoll, Mentum, TEMS) to model traffic patterns and forecast capacity requirements.
  • Prepare detailed performance reports and present actionable recommendations to senior management.
  • Support emergency response and disaster recovery initiatives by ensuring network resilience.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of LTE, 5G NR, and GSM/UMTS technologies.
  • Proficiency with network optimization software and drive‑test equipment.
  • Analytical mindset with ability to interpret large data sets and translate findings into practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Project management experience, including planning, execution, and monitoring.
  • Ability to work independently and in cross‑functional teams.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Cisco CCNP, Nokia NRS, or equivalent are advantageous.

Experience

Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in telecom network optimization, preferably within a large carrier environment. Demonstrated success in improving network KPIs and delivering measurable performance gains is essential.

Salary

The role offers a competitive salary range of SSP 150,000 to 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with performance‑based incentives.
