Job Overview
The Safety Management Systems (SMS) Analyst will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and monitoring the airline’s SMS framework. Reporting to the Head of Safety, the analyst will ensure compliance with ICAO standards, local regulatory requirements, and internal policies. This position involves data analysis, risk assessment, safety performance monitoring, and collaboration with cross‑functional teams to embed safety culture throughout the organization. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve the Safety Management System in line with ICAO Annex 19 and Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority regulations.
- Collect, analyze, and report safety data, including incident reports, hazard identifications, and safety performance indicators.
- Conduct risk assessments and safety audits across all operational areas, including flight operations, maintenance, ground handling, and cabin services.
- Facilitate safety investigations, root‑cause analyses, and corrective action tracking to ensure timely resolution.
- Collaborate with pilots, engineers, cabin crew, and ground staff to promote proactive safety reporting and a positive safety culture.
- Prepare safety performance dashboards and present findings to senior management and regulatory bodies.
- Support the development of safety training programs and safety communication initiatives.
- Monitor compliance with national and international safety standards and recommend enhancements.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, PowerBI, Tableau).
- In‑depth knowledge of ICAO SMS framework, Kenyan aviation regulations, and industry best practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear reporting and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
- Problem‑solving mindset with attention to detail and a proactive approach to risk mitigation.
- Familiarity with safety investigation techniques and root‑cause analysis methodologies.
Education
The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Safety Management, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related discipline. Advanced certifications such as ICAO SMS Auditor, IOSA, or equivalent are highly desirable. Continuous professional development is encouraged to stay abreast of evolving safety standards.
Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in aviation safety, safety management systems, or related fields is required. Experience within an airline environment, especially in safety analysis, risk assessment, or safety auditing, will be considered a strong advantage.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 150,000 to 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided.
