Job Overview
The Hydrometallurgical Process Chemist will play a critical role in optimizing our mineral extraction processes within the Machakos region. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and optimize the chemical parameters of the leaching circuits to maximize gold and copper recovery.
- Conduct detailed laboratory analysis of ore samples and process solutions to identify deviations in chemical composition.
- Manage the dosage and application of reagents, ensuring cost-effective and environmentally compliant usage.
- Develop and implement new hydrometallurgical protocols to improve the efficiency of solvent extraction processes.
- Collaborate with the metallurgical engineering team to troubleshoot process instabilities and prevent downtime.

- Oversee the management of tailings chemistry to ensure environmental safety and adherence to local standards.
Required Skills
- Advanced knowledge of hydrometallurgical processes including cyanidation, CIP/CIL, and electrowinning.
- Proficiency in chemical modeling software and statistical data analysis tools.
- Strong laboratory techniques including titration, ICP-OES, and AAS analysis.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced industrial environment.
- Deep understanding of reagent chemistry and its impact on mineral recovery.
- Excellent technical writing skills for reporting complex scientific findings.
Education
A minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, or Applied Chemistry is required. A Master’s degree in Mineral Processing or a related scientific field will be considered a significant advantage for this role.
Experience
Candidates must possess at least 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience in a large-scale mining or mineral processing facility.
