Job Description

This full-time Truck Driver role is an on-site position based in Nairobi County, Kenya. The Truck Driver is responsible for operating company trucks to transport goods safely to designated locations, following assigned routes and schedules. Daily tasks include performing pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, loading and unloading cargo as required, and securing loads to prevent damage. The driver will complete delivery documentation, communicate with dispatch and customers, and follow all road safety rules and company policies. The role also involves adhering to relevant transportation regulations, reporting any mechanical issues, and supporting basic vehicle cleanliness and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Carry out thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, including basic checks such as fuel, oil, and tyre pressure, reporting any defects without delay to the fleet supervisor.
2. Supervise and confirm proper loading, securing, and documentation of goods.
3. Drive safely and professionally to delivery destinations, in line with traffic laws, safety protocols, and company policy.
4. Verify the accuracy of goods against orders and delivery paperwork before departure and upon delivery.
5. Plan routes efficiently to minimise travel time and fuel consumption.
6. Handle unexpected situations on the road, such as roadblocks or breakdowns, calmly and professionally.
7. Ensure delivery notes are signed, dated, and stamped, and escalate any discrepancies immediately.
8. Maintain accurate, up-to-date delivery logs and submit all trip documentation on time.
9. Keep the designated truck clean and well-maintained, and report mechanical issues, accidents, or road incidents promptly through the correct channels.
10. Maintain a courteous, professional manner when interacting with dealers and clients during deliveries.

Qualifications
• KCSE Certificate; a Diploma or Certificate in a relevant field is an added advantage
• 10+ years of proven truck driving experience. Previous experience as a truck driver or in a logistics/transportation environment is preferred
• Valid Kenyan driving licence (Class BCE, C, C1 or CE)
• Valid Certificate of Good Conduct
• In-depth knowledge of road safety regulations and best practices
• Familiarity with routes across different regions and counties in Kenya
• Willingness to undertake long-distance trips, both within Kenya and across borders, including arid and semi-arid (ASAL) regions; prior experience in such terrain is an added advantage
• A clean driving record and consistently professional conduct
• Good communication skills for interacting with dispatch, customers, and colleagues; ability to maintain accurate delivery records
• Reliability, punctuality, and ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed
• Defensive Driving Certificate, Mechanical Knowledge, Prior Experience Driving Mitsubishi Fuso FI Trucks and Proficiency using Google Maps or other navigation tools will be an added advantage

Selection Process
Shortlisted candidates will undergo a two-stage interview: an oral interview followed by a practical driving test.
