Job Overview

The Public Transportation Planner will design, evaluate, and implement strategic public transit plans for Kisii and surrounding regions. Key Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive public transportation master plans aligned with national and regional policies.
• Conduct data collection, travel demand modeling, and scenario analysis to forecast ridership and service performance.
• Collaborate with local government, private operators, and NGOs to integrate bus, minibus, and emerging mobility services.
• Prepare cost‑benefit analyses, funding proposals, and implementation schedules for new routes and infrastructure upgrades.
• Assess environmental impact and promote sustainable, low‑carbon transport solutions.
• Monitor and evaluate existing public transport systems, recommending improvements based on performance metrics.
• Prepare technical reports, policy briefs, and presentations for senior officials and public consultations.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, accessibility regulations, and international best practices.

Required Skills

• Advanced proficiency in transport modelling software (e.g., VISUM, TransCAD, or similar).
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for stakeholder engagement and report preparation.
• Project management experience, including budgeting, scheduling, and risk assessment.
• Knowledge of Kenyan transport regulations, urban planning frameworks, and sustainability standards.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and government agencies.

Education

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., PMP, APTA) are considered an advantage.

Experience

Applicants must have at least five years of relevant experience in public transportation planning, urban mobility projects, or related fields. Experience with Kenyan transport projects or in East African contexts is highly desirable.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 150,000 to 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided.
