Job Overview

The Data Privacy Officer will lead the development, implementation and monitoring of Kenya Airways’ data protection framework, ensuring compliance with the Kenya Data Protection Act, international regulations such as GDPR, and industry best practices. The officer will act as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies, conduct privacy impact assessments, and embed privacy by design into all business processes. This position plays a critical role in protecting the airline’s reputation, mitigating risk, and fostering trust among passengers, partners and employees. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and enforce the airline’s data privacy policies, procedures and standards.
  • Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new projects, systems and third‑party engagements.
  • Serve as the point of contact for data subjects, regulators and internal stakeholders on privacy matters.
  • Monitor compliance with the Kenya Data Protection Act, GDPR, and other relevant regulations.
  • Lead privacy training and awareness programs across all departments.
  • Collaborate with IT, Security, Legal and Marketing teams to embed privacy by design.
  • Manage data breach response, investigation and reporting in line with statutory timelines.
  • Prepare and submit regular compliance reports to senior management and the board.

Required Skills

  • In‑depth knowledge of Kenya Data Protection Act, GDPR and other global privacy regulations.
  • Strong analytical and risk assessment capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in privacy management tools and data mapping techniques.
  • Ability to translate legal requirements into practical operational controls.
  • Experience with incident response and data breach handling.

Education

A recognized bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPP/K, CIPM or ISO 27701 Lead Implementer are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in data privacy, compliance or information security roles, preferably within the aviation, transportation or large‑scale service industry. Demonstrated experience in conducting DPIAs, managing regulatory inquiries and delivering privacy training is essential.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary ranging from SSP 200,000 to SSP 350,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based incentives and annual bonuses are also part of the remuneration package.
