Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate Sustainable Construction Materials Specialist to lead the development and implementation of eco-friendly building materials in Kisumu. This role will focus on creating cost-effective, durable, and environmentally responsible construction solutions for urban and rural infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities
- Research and develop sustainable construction materials using recycled or bio-based components.
- Conduct material testing and performance analysis in collaboration with local universities and research institutions.
- Design scalable production methods for low-carbon building solutions.
- Provide technical guidance to construction teams on sustainable material application.
- Monitor compliance with international sustainability standards (e.g., LEED, Green Star).
Required Skills
- Expertise in material science, particularly in eco-concrete, bio-composites, or energy-efficient insulation.
- Proficiency in life-cycle assessment (LCA) tools and carbon footprint calculations.
- Strong project management skills for cross-disciplinary R&D initiatives.
- Knowledge of Kenyan building codes and climate-specific construction challenges.
- Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and technical reporting.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science, Civil Engineering, or Environmental Science.
- Postgraduate qualification in Sustainable Design or Construction Management preferred.
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in sustainable construction materials development.
- Proven track record in leading R&D projects for green building solutions.
- Experience working in emerging markets or with NGOs is an advantage.
Salary
150,000 – 250,000 SSP/year, depending on experience and qualifications.
