Key Job Responsibilities (Job Description)
1. Strategic & Technical Pharmaceutical Leadership
The Section Pharmacist will:
- Develop and implement pharmaceutical strategies aligned with international MSF standards.
- Strengthen pharmaceutical systems and medicine governance frameworks.
- Guide local and international medical procurement strategies.
- Manage pharmaceutical quality assurance systems.
- Maintain and update the Medical Master List (MML) in collaboration with supply and logistics departments.
- Support operational planning for emergency medical interventions and country programs.
- Promote rational medicine use, antimicrobial stewardship, and pharmacovigilance.
2. Pharmaceutical Operations & Technical Support
Responsibilities include:
- Providing expert pharmaceutical guidance to country programs and headquarters teams.
- Supporting medicine forecasting and validation of medical orders.
- Reviewing local pharmaceutical purchases and authorization requests.
- Advising on pharmaceutical legal compliance and importation regulations.
- Conducting field assessments of pharmaceutical systems and medicine markets.
- Supporting compliance with WHO Good Distribution Practices (GDP), Good Storage Practices (GSP), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Managing pharmaceutical cold chain requirements and temperature excursion incidents.
3. Medicine Quality Assurance & Pharmacovigilance
The selected candidate will:
- Ensure medicine safety and quality standards across all programs.
- Monitor product quality alerts, medicine recalls, and pharmacovigilance reports.
- Collaborate with international pharmaceutical units and procurement teams.
- Strengthen safe medication practices and evidence-based pharmaceutical care.
4. Medical Stock & Pharmacy Management
Key duties include:
- Implementing Good Storage and Distribution Practices (GSDP).
- Supervising medical inventory systems and pharmacy operations.
- Supporting pharmaceutical tools such as IsyStock, MedOrders, UniField, and DART.
- Improving pharmacy workflows, medicine distribution systems, and inventory tracking.
- Supporting setup and management of medical stock systems in field programs.
- Ensuring accurate medicine consumption reporting and stock movement monitoring.
5. Representation & Stakeholder Coordination
The role also includes:
- Representing MSF Ubuntu in international pharmacy technical working groups.
- Collaborating with global pharmaceutical partners and healthcare organizations.
- Supporting regional and international pharmaceutical policy development.
6. Capacity Building & Team Development
The Section Pharmacist will:
- Mentor pharmacy professionals and healthcare teams.
- Deliver training on pharmaceutical standards and medical supply management.
- Support workforce development and technical learning initiatives.
- Promote cross-cultural collaboration and continuous professional improvement.
