Job Overview

The Network Planning Engineer will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and expanding Safaricom’s radio access network (RAN) in the Kericho region. This position plays a critical role in ensuring seamless coverage, capacity, and quality of service for both urban and rural customers. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute detailed network rollout plans, including site acquisition, RF design, and capacity forecasting.
  • Perform radio frequency (RF) simulations and drive‑test analyses to validate coverage and performance targets.
  • Collaborate with civil, construction, and procurement teams to ensure timely delivery of network assets.
  • Monitor network KPIs, identify optimization opportunities, and implement corrective actions to improve quality of service.
  • Prepare technical reports, cost‑benefit analyses, and project documentation for senior management.
  • Stay updated with emerging 5G technologies, standards, and industry trends to recommend future upgrades.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in network planning tools such as Atoll, Planet, or Mentum.
  • Strong understanding of LTE, 4G, and emerging 5G architectures.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a data‑driven mindset.
  • Effective communication skills for cross‑team coordination and stakeholder presentations.
  • Project management experience, including budgeting and timeline management.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in RF planning, 5G, or project management (e.g., PMP) are considered an advantage.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in telecom network planning, optimization, or a similar engineering role. Prior experience with Safaricom’s network technologies or in the Kenyan telecom market is highly desirable.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 150,000 to SSP 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based incentives, health benefits, and retirement contributions.
