Kakenya’s Dream is seeking a dedicated Economic Empowerment Officer to support girls and young women in building sustainable livelihoods through education, entrepreneurship, employability, and financial literacy. Job Description (JD)

The Economic Empowerment Officer will lead programs that equip girls and young women with employability skills, entrepreneurship knowledge, and financial literacy. The position also focuses on scholarship support, alumni engagement, mentorship, partnerships, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Financial Literacy & Economic Empowerment

  • Design and facilitate workshops on financial literacy, including budgeting, savings, debt management, financial planning, and education financing.
  • Support girls and young women in forming and participating in community groups and SACCOS to strengthen savings culture and financial independence.
  • Lead awareness campaigns promoting the importance of economic empowerment for girls and women.
  • Conduct outreach initiatives highlighting employment opportunities and barriers to decent work.

2. Education Support, Scholarships & Student Retention

  • Assist students with college admissions and scholarship applications to improve transition and acceptance rates.
  • Coordinate parent engagement meetings to strengthen support for tertiary education.
  • Monitor student academic performance, retention, scholarship compliance, and placements.
  • Act as the key focal point for tertiary students by offering guidance and follow-up support throughout their academic journey.

3. Alumni Engagement & Network Development

  • Develop and strengthen the Kakenya’s Dream alumni network.
  • Encourage alumni participation through mentorship, volunteering, speaking opportunities, and student support.
  • Maintain and update an alumni database for tracking engagement and long-term outcomes.

7. Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL)

  • Conduct evaluations to assess training effectiveness and program impact.
  • Gather and analyze participant feedback to improve programs.
  • Track alumnae outcomes, scholarship success, and employment progress for reporting purposes.

8. Climate Change & Community Development Initiatives

  • Coordinate environmental sustainability activities such as:
    • Tree planting campaigns
    • School environmental programs
    • Kitchen garden projects promoting food security and sustainability skills.

9. Project Management & Administration

  • Support budget development and resource planning.
  • Prepare activity reports, progress updates, and impact documentation.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by management.

Educational Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following fields:
    • Economics
    • Project Management
    • Social Sciences

    • Development Studies
    • Or any related discipline

Additional certifications in entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, financial literacy, or project management are an advantage.

Experience Requirements

Candidates should possess:

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in:
    • Youth development

    • Entrepreneurship support programs
    • Livelihood initiatives
  • Experience delivering financial literacy education and business skills training.
  • Strong understanding of rural livelihoods and local economic challenges affecting young women.
  • Experience working with young women in rural communities is highly preferred.
  • Proven ability to develop partnerships with businesses, TVET institutions, and government stakeholders.
